Starting A Black University

Updated: May 3, 2021

I have taken you on a great number of journeys since I have started writing in the news. 2021 is here and I do not plan for us as a people to do business as usual. 2021 is the year that we as a people take charge of our lives, and give this young generation the guidance they will need from “US” to survive in this technical society now and in the future. I have been working on a project that will inspire our young generation, and you the “parent”, about our young generations’ future. For some time now I have been wondering how I could establish a “University.” Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I have come to a very big decision. I am going to start a university in the name of Marcus Mosiah Garvey. The name of the university will be “Marcus Garvey Triangle University”.

I was elected President of the Triangle Division of the University Negro Improvement Association in November 2019 at Martin Street Baptist Street Church. This appointment was bestowed on me by President General Cleophus Miller, which really gave me the incentive about how I could pursue this venture. I do not want any government funds or assistance, because I have seen, observed, and mainly experienced what this government will do if they don’t want you in this inclusive system. I worked for the federal government for 26 years and had to fight for positions that I was more than qualified. A lot of people don’t know this, but I am an honor graduate of Shaw University, and a Certified Mechanic and Test Examiner for the United States Postal Service. I graduated “CUM Laude” in 1976 after returning from Vietnam. I have observed and experienced situations you would not believe. I have seen how this government has failed us as a “PEOPLE.'' Now I want to give back to my community that taught me how to achieve in this cynical society.

I know that at first I will have to raise money. This is why I am asking you “Black America” to take this journey with me because our young generation deserves it. Nearly 1.5 million North Carolinians voted in the 2020 election. I am requesting just a one or ten dollar donation that will help finance this venture. If you donate your name will be added to our doctrine.

I know the university will need to meet a variety of regulations intended to ensure we will be providing our students with a quality education. I know that all our children do not have the aptitude to go to college, but they do have the ability to achieve in a “Trade”.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you are willing to take this journey with me, you can write me at Triangle Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) at P. O. Box 24953. Raleigh, N. C. 27611. If you decide to take this journey with me, then I will explain why I want this university to exist, about the university’s educational philosophy, the curriculum we will offer and our mission statement. Hoping to hear from you soon.

Be safe, careful, and wear your mask. One God—One Aim—One Destiny.
